Resolve A Computer Running Slow With Do-It-Yourself Methods

By Joseph King

Your computer will sooner or later slow down if you run it a lot no matter how expensive or capable it is. It's because computers, just like a automobile, is supposed to be well maintained and serviced for it to perform at its maximum level. Suffice to say that maintenance is important for your PC.

After constant use, your computer's performance will begin to decline. Normal everyday things such as opening a program takes longer than normal (some programs could not be accessed at all) and error messages regularly pop up. Well, you may check out some home repairs for the computer running slow issue yourself to increase your Computer's performance.

So where to start? What you might try is to look at your drives to determine whether they have adequate free space. Your computer uses this free space each time it accesses a program or application (for additional RAM or random access memory to aid your Computer's memory card). Based on its capability, at least 25 percent of your hard drive space should be free at all times. If the computer's hard drive has too many files and programs, then its' high time that you remove or uninstall a few of them.

While removing applications, you should be cautious as some applications are linked with additional programs (that removing them could cause the additional program to be unusable). Uninstall the ones that you seldom use and are not vital in the day to day working of your PC. Games, graphic intense programs as well as MP3 and video storage will use a lot of the available storage capacity and utilize a significant amount of available resources so keep these as small as possible.

An additional computer running slow fix is the "Defragmentation" of your computer's hard drive. While there is available storage space in your hard drive, accessing the information can be slow because of bad placement or organization of the stored data. Simply click "my computer" and then click right on the computer drive you want to Defragment. Next click the "tool" tab and then "Defragment now". On a vista operating system PC you would click on "programs" next "accessories" and after that System Tools and click on Disk Defragmenter and follow the directions shown there.

Solving a few of your computer running slow problems is a project that you may perform on your own but be sure that you practice a little amount of care.
