Customer Service For Ebay

By Arlene Case

If you have an eBay business, you should realize that customer service is very important, even for the online auctions. Giving quality customer service to your clients will cause them to do one or two things. They will give you great feedback, and they may look for more of your auctions in the future. If you wish to have a continuous flow of customers, then start thinking of the auctions as business deals.

If you had a business, and your customers are waiting for their orders, what would you do while their orders are being prepared? Obviously, you would be helpful and very respectful. You would do everything that you could to guarantee that customers return to your establishment in the future. You would exert all effort to make sure that their experience doing business with you was satisfactory and enjoyable. Why would you do any less at the close of one of your eBay auctions?

Act quickly when your auction closes. You should contact he winner and express your congratulations. Describe the item to them and give details about the shipping, even if they probably know this already before the auction. Remind them of their winning bid amount, and give them payment options and instructions. Inform him about the shipping date.

End your email by expressing your gratitude for his participation in your auction. You can also inform him of any other open auctions you might currently have. Consider this email as a conversation that you would have with a customer who was waiting for his order in your store.

You should contact the customer again after the payment and shipping are done. Let them know when the item was shipped - the exact date and time - and when it is expected to arrive on their end. Let them know that you welcome them to contact you through eBay if they have any problems or questions. If they do contact you, be sure that you give an answer quickly, and do all you can to ensure that they are happy doing business with you, even if it involves a refund.

Yup. Refunds should be an option, depending on the item. And when you do issue refunds, these should be done promptly. Of course, it is reasonable to expect the buyer to return the item to you, at your expense, before the refund is issued - but once you receive the item, issue the refund promptly. Now that's good business!
