Xbox 360 Red Ring Of Death - 6 Warning Signs To Watch For

By Jack Livingston

If you own an Xbox 360, you have good reason to worry about whether your console will get the red ring of death. Perhaps you're wondering what sort of warning signs you will likely see. It is very common to see strange and even bizarre effects on your machine just before the onset of the ring of death.

When these warning signs occur, you shouldn't ignore them and hope they will go away. They clearly indicate that something is wrong and it's almost guaranteed that things will get even worse.

Here is a list of some very common symptoms or warning signs of an impending RROD failure:

1.) The only thing that works is the button that turns the console on or off.

2.) The sound stops or there are sounds of static.

3.) Your console suddenly freezes.

4.) You get problems with the graphics. There may be checker patterns, stripes, or any effects that don't belong to the game that you're playing.

5.) A message appears when you start up that indicates that your disc is unreadable.

6.) Getting the 2 red light error (overheating) is a common occurrence.

Technically speaking, frequent overheating isn't by itself a warning sign. But frequent overheating often causes damage that eventually leads to the red ring of death. This damage may be small at first but gets progressively worse with each instance of overheating.

Sometimes the red ring of death can happen suddenly with no advance warning. This can sometimes mean that nothing is wrong with the console. It could be that a cable is loose or that the Xbox isn't getting the required power.

The red ring of death can also be triggered directly by overheating. If this should happen then all you have to do is run the console in a cool state by making sure that the vents have easy access to cool air.

You should also keep the console away from other sources of heat. If these suggestions don't help and your console still overheats, you might try getting an external cooling fan with its own independent power supply.

If you are getting any of the warning signs mentioned here and they are getting gradually worse, then this means that an internal part or component is slowly becoming more damaged over time.
